What is carob powder?

Carob (carob tree pod of Constantinople, John’s bread) – an evergreen tree up to 10-15 m. Its fruits resemble green beans, but much more long, reaching 30 cm in length.

These beans have been used as food for more than 5,000 years. Carob powder comes from carob beans that have been cooked for a short time or roasted. Raw carob powder is an alternative to cocoa powder, having several distinct advantages.
